A raíz de un accidente sufrido con su moto, al veterano rockero Ozzy Osbourne, de 55 años de edad, le será implantada una placa de metal en la base de su cuello para estabilizar una vértebra fracturada y prevenir futuras lesiones.
La operación, de tres horas de duración, se realizará en cuanto el ex cantante de Black Sabbath esté en condiciones físicas apropiadas.
Según la opinión de los médicos que lo atienden, si continúa la mejoría que viene experimentando, Osbourne podría tardar seis meses en recuperarse del accidente que sufrió el 8 de diciembre, en el que se fracturó ocho costillas, una vértebra y la clavícula.
"Está despierto y hace chistes todo el tiempo. A las enfermeras les pregunta si se quieren casar con él", relató la esposa del artista.
El cantante, que respira sin asistencia mecánica desde el lunes, fue salvado en un primer momento por un empleado de seguridad, quien le hizo la respiración boca a boca. De inmediato fue ingresado en la unidad de cuidados intensivos del hospital Wexham Park.
El cantante lloró de alegría cuando se enteró del éxito de su single "Changes" en los charts británicos, dijo su esposa Sharon en entrevista con el canal de música MTV.
"Para él, se hizo realidad un sueño", añadió. La canción grabada con su hija Kelly alcanzó el lunes el primer puesto en el chart británico de singles.

LONDRES (Reuters) -- El cantante Ozzy Osbourne, que se recupera en un hospital tras sufrir un accidente de motocicleta, llegó a lo más alto en las listas de ventas de música pop en Gran Bretaña esta semana con un dueto con su hija Kelly.
Osbourne, de 55 años, quien se hizo famoso en la década de 1970 como líder del grupo Black Sabbath, se fracturó ocho costillas y una vértebra del cuello en un accidente la semana pasada en Inglaterra.
Sin embargo, ello no impidió que su tema "Changes" (Cambios), una nueva versión de una canción de Black Sabbath, llegara al primer lugar de las listas británicas de ventas de sencillos.
Tras el accidente, se anticipaba que la canción encabezaría las listas británicas en Navidad por la simpatía del público hacia Ozzy, quien ha pasado de ser una figura del rock pesado a un personaje querido de la serie de televisión "The Osbournes".
El sencillo interpretado por padre e hija relegó al ídolo pop británico Will Young, que quedó en segunda posición con su tema "Leave Right Now", mientras que la banda estadounidense de hip-hop Black Eyed Peas quedó en el tercer puesto con "Shut Up".

Osbourne, de 55 años de edad, presentó daños en una arteria y se fracturó la clavícula, seis costillas del lado izquierdo y una vértebra del cuello, al caerse la víspera de una motocicleta todo terreno en su casa de Buckhinghamshire, sur de Inglaterra.
El accidente del cantante, que saltó a la fama en la década de los setenta como vocalista del grupo Black Sabbath, ocurrió durante un descanso de la gira de promoción del tema "Changes" que interpreta al lado de su hija, Kelly, según reportes de la prensa local.
Tras el percance, el controversial cantante -que causó revuelo cuando se atrevió a morder la cabeza de un vampiro durante una de sus actuaciones en vivo en Des Moine, Iowa- fue trasladado al hospital Wexham Park en el sur del país.
El publicista de Osborne informó esta tarde en un comunicado de prensa que el rockero se encuentra en condición estable tras ser sometido a la cirugía que no representó riesgo alguno y que sirvió para retirarle sangre de los pulmones, de acuerdo con el reporte.
La esposa de Osbourne, Sharon, viajó este martes desde Los Angeles California hasta Reino Unido para encontrarse con Osbourne, quien aún se encuentra hospitalizado.
"No he sabido de él desde anoche. No he podido hablar con él por teléfono e iré directo al hospital a verlo. Supe del accidente por el guardaespaldas de mi esposo", comentó Sharon este martes a su llegada al aeropuerto Heathrow de esta capital.
Sharon ha saltado a la fama al lado de su popular esposo y sus dos hijos, Kelly y Jack, gracias al programa de televisión "The Osbournes" que se trasmite por la cadena estadunidense "Music Television" (MTV), como reality show que muestra su vida familiar.
Nacido en Birmingham, centro de Inglaterra, Osbourne consolidó su carrera al lanzarse como solista, aunque siempre ha sido blanco de controversia por la letra de sus canciones y sus acciones irreverentes, así como por sus escándalos matrimoniales.

"Padecí abusos sexuales de niño", confesó el cantante, de 54 años y ex componente de la banda "Black Sabbath", en una entrevista que publicó ayer el diario sensacionalista británico "The Daily Mirror".
"Dos niños -explicó- solían esperarme al salir de la escuela. Me obligaban a bajarme los calzoncillos. Me palpaban y me tocaban... Era terrible. Se convirtió en una cosa habitual cuando regresaba a casa".
Sin embargo, el artista, gran estrella del programa "The Osbournes" de la cadena de televisión musical MTV, ocultó a sus padres el problema porque se sentía "asustado" y sólo superó el trauma con la ayuda de un terapeuta.
"Cuando yo era un niño, la gente no hablaba de estas cosas como se hace ahora", dijo Osbourne, quien creció en el seno de una familia pobre en un modesto piso de Birmingham, aunque ahora vive en su mansión del selecto barrio de Beverly Hills.
Conocido por sus excesos con el alcohol y las drogas, el cantante explicó también que abandonó la bebida debido al ultimátum impuesto por su esposa, Sharon, a quien se le diagnosticó un cáncer de colon el pasado año.

"Dos muchachos solían esperarme cuando llegaba a casa después del colegio ... Se había convertido en algo normal", manifestó en declaraciones al The Daily Mirror.
"Solían forzarme a bajar mis pantalones ... Me sentían y tocaban ... parecía que ello nunca acabaría", agregó Osbourne, de 54 años, que creció en Birmingham, en el área central de Inglaterra.
Osbourne, que actúa en el programa de la televisión "The Osbournes" junto a algunos miembros de su familia, dijo que la primera vez que fue abusado sucedió frente a su hermana, lo que lo afectó aún más.
"Tenía miedo de contarle a mi madre o a mi padre ... Mis padres se peleaban y no tenían dinero. Los ocho vivíamos en una casa de dos habitaciones. El guapo Johnny Depp, quien actuó recientemente en la exitosa Pirates of the Caribbean, venció a Colin Farrell por el papel del rockero Ozzy Osbourne. Jack Black también competía por el rol. Las revelaciones se conocieron en el libro ?Ordinary People: Our Story?, que comenzó a serializarse hoy en el matutino inglés The Sun.
En el libro, Sharon admite haber tenido una relación abierta con Rhoads hasta su muerte, en un trágico accidente aéreo ocurrido en 1982.
?Cuando hablo de los primeros días de pareja con Ozzy, tengo que ser honesta. No éramos sólo nosotros dos. Randy era parte esencial de esa historia, él era la persona más pacífica y que intermediaba en las peleas. If you thought seeing 54-year-old rocker Ozzy Osbourne wearing a Cubs jersey was bizarre, Osbourne and wife Sharon soon showed everybody they hadn't seen anything yet.
Asked to "sing" "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch of the Cubs game against the Dodgers on Aug. 17, the Osbournes put on a performance that was debatable as to whether it qualified as singing -- even on a stage where Mike Ditka had recently warbled -- but one those who witnessed it won't soon forget.
According to the Chicago Tribune, which published a transcript of the performance, here's how the Osbourne rendition went:
Chip Caray: "All right, Chicago. Here comes Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne."
Ozzy: "All right, Chicago. I want to hear a real crazy crowd start singing. Are you ready? Are you ready? I can't hear you. Are you ready?
"One. Two. Three.
"Let's go out to the ballgame. Let's go out to the bluhhhhhn.
"Take me a ee-yan eeya (humming) the field.

The fans gave the pair a round of polite applause. Wrigley Field has certainly seen a few bizarre performances over the years, but this one deserves to make the short list in the off-the-field category.
Then again Osbourne was born in England, so maybe it's not his fault he apparently did not know the words.
Last season more than 300,000 votes were cast in the inaugural "This Year in Baseball Awards." Alex Rodriguez took home top player honors while John Smoltz was voted the top pitcher in all of baseball. Voting for the 2003 awards ends on Dec. 2. Winners will be announced live on MLB.TV at 2 p.m. ET on Dec. 4.

Just like Mrs. O, son Jack Osbourne has parlayed the success of The Osbournes into other film and television projects. He's currently in Toronto filming the upcoming movie, "New York Minute," with the Olsen twins. In the movie, he plays a rock and roll band manager (go figure).
Sharon asked Jack to give us an All-Access tour of the set and he happily complied. Jack showed us the inside of his star trailer and got some one-on-one time with his two favorite co-stars.

Ozzy Osbourne prepara musical sobre Rasputín

El musical presentará la vida de Grigori Yefimovich, más conocido como Rasputín (1872-1916).

El músico británico Ozzy Osbourne está desarrollando las canciones que formarán parte de un musical basado en la vida del desaparecido monje ruso Rasputín. El artista planea grabar los temas y editar la banda sonora del espectáculo, el que se desarrollará aún sin fecha de estreno en Broadway.
Osbourne señaló que el álbum lo grabará en el estudio que construyó en su propia casa en el Reino Unido y que lo lanzará de manera independiente sin el apoyo de ninguna compañía discográfica.
El musical presentará la vida de Grigori Yefimovich, más conocido como Rasputín (1872-1916), un autodenominado monje que se ganó la confianza de la los Romanov tras convertirse en el médico personal del heredero al trono, Alexis, afectado de hemofilia.
El poder de Rasputín llegó a ser tan grande, que reemplazó en las labores de gobierno al zar Nicolás II, mientras este dirigía a las tropas rusas durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. El monje, experto de hipnosis, fue asesinado por un grupo de aristócratas en 1916.
El intérprete mantiene un contrato con la cadena estadounidense MTV, para la que desarrolla el reality show "The Osbournes", el que semanalmente es seguido por más de tres millones de personas en ese país.

Ciudad de México (19 septiembre 2003).- La legendaria banda Deep Purple, una de las principales exponentes del hard rock de los años 70 al lado de grupos como Black Sabbath o Led Zeppelin, lamentó la transformación del rockero Ozzy Osbourne en un monstruo que no se puede controlar.
El bajista Roger Glover, al ser cuestionado sobre la participación del ex vocalista de Black Sabbath en el reality show del canal de videos MTV, The Osbournes, dijo que es una lástima lo que hace el cantante.
"No creó que él esperaba convertirse en lo que es, se ha convertido en un monstruo que no pueden controlar y no tiene nada qué ver con música.
"Creo que lo que le sucede a Ozzy Osbourne es realmente una lástima, hay una falta de dignidad, no sé si puedas usar las palabras Ozzy Osbourne y dignidad en el mismo enunciado; él era un músico digno pero creo que esto lo hace con sus ojos abiertos y espero que haga mucho dinero, no lo sé", afirmó Roger Glover, en enlace telefónico desde Brasil.
El músico agregó que para Deep Purple la televisión siempre fue otro mundo y que las bandas de rock que se aventuran a entrar a ella lo hacen con cierto miedo.
"Nosotros siempre estuvimos fastidiados por la televisión porque nuestro sonido era tan grande que nos ponía tristes cuando salía de una pequeña bocina", afirmó el bajista.
Integrado además por Ian Gillian (vocales), Ian Paice (batería), Steve Morse (guitarra), y Don Airey (órgano), la agrupación inglesa presentará en vivo su más reciente producción, Bananas, y temas clásicos, el 23 de septiembre en el Auditorio Nacional.
El título del disco, explicó, es porque a veces se tiene el poder de dar un nombre extraño y viene de una fotografía que Glover vio hace tres años.
"Lo que pasa es que cuando no piensas, no usas inteligentemente tu cerebro, lo que haces lo actuas instintivamente, tiene una relación y un poder sobre eso; Bananas tiene mucho poder porque es algo que tiene muchos significados, algo simple que encierra muchas cosas y cobra peso, es algo como incongruente.
"'To go bananas' significa en inglés volverse loco, ser inhibido, tener libertad, y de hecho fue bueno tener el nombre del álbum antes de escribirlo porque dio una sensación de seguridad para el resto del material, es más difícil cuando terminas el álbum y te preguntas cómo lo vas a llamar", explicó.
Bananas fue grabado en modo análogo y llevado enseguida a la computadora, tal vez por algo nostálgico, agregó.
"Y el resultado fue un disco que la gente dice, suena a Deep Purple".
En los setentas el rock and roll iba muy de la mano de las drogas pero en Deep Purple el más hippie era Glover, quien de vez en cuando fumaba marihuana mientras el resto de la banda tomaba alcohol.
"Me sorprendí cuando llegué a Estados Unidos al ver la cantidad de drogas que existía; era de cierta forma alarmante, y éramos de hecho una banda antidrogas, éramos bebedores pero nunca consumimos drogas.
"Después creces y te vuelves más consciente, aún ahora me preocupa que es una enorme operación ilegal y supongo que se debería ver la opción de legalizarla porque desafortunadamente gente inocente paga por los culpables", apuntó.
Luego de su más reciente producción como solista, Snapshot, Glover entrará probablemente el año que viene al estudio junto con la banda.
"Hemos estado sin cambiar (de miembros) desde los últimos nueve años, y es lo más que hemos durado así; pero siempre ha sido el mismo espíritu de la banda, se trata de música, el espíritu continúa, no lo sé definir; para mucha gente Deep Purple no será nunca el mismo pero eso es obvio, no lo podemos negar y no hay razón para hacerlo", concluyó.

Nueva York? ¿Ha afectado el éxito a la familia Osbourne? La respuesta, dada por Sharon y Jack Osbourne a Barbara Walters de ABCNEWS en una entrevista exclusiva, es ?sí?.
En una reveladora entrevista que dio ayer al programa 20/20 de la cadena ABC, Sharon dijo que de hecho abandonó a su esposo, Ozzy Osbourne, y dejó la casa por cierto tiempo, y que Jack acaba de ser dado de alta de un centro de rehabilitación luego de tomar dosis masivas de analgésicos y contemplar suicidarse.
Sharon argumentó que cuando la drogadicción de Jack lo obligó a someterse a rehabilitación, ella se hartó de que Ozzy usara drogas. Mientras buscaba un centro de rehabilitación para Jack, Sharon afirma que Ozzy continuaba abusando del alcohol y medicinas controladas.
?Simplemente dije, ?tienes que parar?, y no lo hizo. Y le dije, ?bueno, entonces me marcho?. Y empaqué mis maletas, y me fui?.
La separación duró solamente un par de días, dice. ?En cuanto me fui, a la mañana siguiente, dejó de beber. Pero yo necesitaba asegurarme que él estaba dispuesto. Que en verdad lo deseaba. Y, luego de cuatro días, fui a verlo. Y él estaba tratando mucho. Mucho. Aún está desintoxicado y sobrio?.
Jack intentó suicidarse
Jack, de 17 años, habla sobre la seriedad de su adicción al alcohol y a los analgésicos, incluyendo OxyContin, y de la depresión que sufrió por el cáncer de colon de su madre. Jack admite que su depresión era tan severa que intentó suicidarse.
?Intenté una sobredosis... tomar un montón de píldoras y beber licor de ajenjo?, dijo. ?Tú sabes, recuerdo haber hablado con mi amigo en una ocasión, me miró y me dijo, ?¿sabes qué vas a hacer si tu madre muere?? Y le dije, ?probablemente suicidarme??.
Sharon dijo que se arrepiente de algunas decisiones que ha tomado para sus hijos. En una entrevista en el 2002 con Walters, Sharon defendió su decisión de permitir que sus tres hijos abandonaran los estudios, diciendo que ellos aprendían lo suficiente en la escuela de la vida.
Ahora, Sharon piensa que ese es el error más grande que ha cometido con sus hijos.

Ozzy cancels UK dates after breaking foot
Ozzy Osbourne has cancelled two UK tour dates after breaking his foot.
The former Black Sabbath frontman has postponed this week's Wembley Arena and Birmingham NEC shows.
He needs to undergo surgery and has rescheduled the concerts for October and November.
Osbourne's Wembley and Birmingham shows were to have been his first UK arena concerts for eight years.
His daughter Kelly had already pulled out of the shows last month due to ill health.
He said today: "I f***ed up my foot on Ozzfest and I need to get it fixed so I can be fighting fit when I come home to the UK."
He will now play The Point in Dublin on October 22, Glasgow SECC (24), Newcastle Arena (26), Wembley Arena (29) and Birmingham NEC (31 and November 1).

Kelly and Ozzy release details of duet
Kelly Osbourne has released details of a duet with her dad Ozzy, after landing a new record deal.
The pair are to re-record a version of the song Changes, which first appeared on a 1972 Black Sabbath album.
Kelly was dumped by her previous record label, Epic, earlier this year.
She also axed a series of dates on a recent tour, which prompted speculation she was abandoning her fledgling music career entirely.
Kelly blamed the cancellation of her shows - including dates with her dad - on her health, although there was no clarification on what was wrong with her.
She has now signed a deal with music group Sanctuary, which will reissue her debut album Shut Up with extra tracks under the new name Changes.
The title track - to be released on November 3 - has been rewritten by Kelly and Ozzy to reflect the changing relationship between a father and daughter as they grow older.
A spokesman for the singer said: "Kelly is currently writing songs for her next album and plans to go into the studio in the next month to begin recording." Changes is her first recording with her dad.
Sanctuary Records is home to artists such as Morrissey, who signed a deal with the company this year after years without a contract.

Rock's royal couple, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, briefly broke up this past spring when the Prince of Darkness fell off the wagon, although the duo have since reconciled their differences.
Mama left home when Ozzy started drinking and abusing prescription drugs--even as their son Jack waited to enter rehab.
"I just said, 'You have to stop,' and he didn't. And I said, 'Well then, I'm going.' And I packed my bags, and I left," Sharon confessed to Barbara Walters in an interview for ABC's 20/20.
Just a few days sans his "Shaaar-onnn!" was all Ozzy needed to see the error of his ways.
"The minute I left, the next morning, he gave up drinking. But I needed to make sure that he was on a roll. That he really meant it," said Sharon. "And, after four days, I came back to see him. And he was trying so hard. So hard. Still is clean and sober."
This isn't the first time Sharon has spilled her domestic woes to Walters. Last November, Ozzy's wily wife and manager complained to Babs that MTV's cameras had become too much. "I can't throw up on my own," said the then chemo-weakened Sharon, "and Ozzy can't get drunk on his own."
This time around, Jack, who spent two months in a detox facility in Pasadena for drug and alcohol abuse, joined his mom for the tell-all, 'fessing up to Barbara that he tried to commit suicide because he was so depressed over Sharon's colon cancer. The Osbourne matriarch is now in remission.
"I attempted to overdose," the 17-year-old said in the interview, due to air Friday night on the Alphabet net at 10 p.m. "Take a whole bunch of pills and drink some absinthe."
While the family's misfortunes might make for great TV, viewers will never get to see Sharon storm out on Ozzy or young Jack attempt an overdose because camera crews had already finished taping the third and, at that time, final season when the drama went down.
The Osbournes have since signed on for a fourth season, scheduled to air early next year, but taping at the Osbournes' Beverly Hills mansion didn't resume until this summer after the brouhaha died down.
However, Osbourne junkies can get their fix of the wacky TV family next week when Sharon's syndicated daytime talk show debuts on Monday. Her young crush, Justin Timberlake, helps kick off Monday's show while Jack joins his mom on Thursday for a discussion about teen addiction and recovery.

bueno otra gira americana del ozzfest que se termina y como no podia ser de otro modo con varios "incidentes" de por medio,si el a?o pasado moria el cantante de drowning pool en su autobus por una sobredosis este a?o para no ser menos le toco al tour manager de ozzy bobby thomson aquejado de cancer de garganta y que murio mientras dormia en su habitacion de hotel.
las fechas canceladas por los problemas de voz de ozzy tambien hicieron acto de presencia en esta edicion del 2003,en fin que ahora le toca el turno a la minigira europea y con un poco de suerte quizas ozzy despues se meta al estudio para grabar su proximo trabajo....so?ar es gratis
y siguiendo con la family si hace unos dias se confirmaba el show de sharon para mediados de septiembre,ahora resulta que channel 4 ficha a jack para un programa -union jack- sobre la "movida" en la ciudad de los angeles (aqui un link a la noticia en ananova)

Sharon Osbourne has missed an important appointment to tape test shows with celebrity guests for her troubled chat program The Sharon Osbourne Show. The mother of three was supposed to be at the Los Angeles studio on Monday - but rang in sick from England on Saturday, telling bosses she would not be in all week. Even though guests and audiences had been booked, Sharon decided she would get in on Friday and Saturday. Sharon's show is set to debut on September 15 but has been beset with problems - booking celebrity guests has proved difficult, with Sean 'P Diddy' Combs being the biggest name attracted to the vehicle. An insider says, "Sharon is a smart, tough businesswoman. She thought her experience with Telepictures would be the same as the one she had with MTV, where they let her do whatever she wanted. Things are not going well." However, Telepictures president Jim Paratore insists, "Our relationship with Sharon has been and continues to be terrific. Sharon went to London to see (daughter) Kelly perform, something that had been the plan for a long time. She got an ear infection and the doctors told her not to fly. Because we're in good shape it wasn't a big deal."

The trio are rumoured to be working on a new project for Kelly although no other information is currently available. In other news, Zakk is also apparently appearing on the next Rob Zombie album due out next year, as well as co-writing and record the next Ozzy album over the next few months.

A lot richer and a bit more sober

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Here we are having tea with Sharon Osbourne in a corner of the lobby at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Ozzy will join us in a little while. Kelly will come later. Jack's in rehab.

For now, the tiny matriarch of the rock 'n' roll family that shot to mainstream fame in March 2002 with its cameras-always-rolling MTV show, The Osbournes, is contemplating all that has happened since then. In fact, she says, it makes her head spin. So right now, 7:30 at night, she needs a cup of tea.
Red-hot in its first season, the show broke ratings records for MTV and became weekly water-cooler fodder. Now, as its third season starts — the first of 10 new episodes taped this past winter and spring airs tonight at 10:30 ET/PT on MTV — the mania has subsided. Second-season ratings were down more than 50% from the show's highest peak in May 2002, when nearly 8 million viewers tuned in, but still good by MTV standards.
Sharon sighs. "As I was leaving — just running upstairs to try and find my handbag; it's always the car keys or the handbag you can't find — I was thinking to myself, 'Is it worth all of this?' "
"It" is the fame and the money. "This" is the hard work and pain the family has publicly gone through.
The Osbournes became such a pop-culture darling that it moved Ozzy from bat-biting rock oddity to lovable, befuddled sitcom dad. The family was on magazine covers and talk shows and heralded as the new Ozzie and Harriet.
"I wanted to be a Beatle," Ozzy will say later. "Now I have a taste of what Beatlemania must have been like with the success of The Osbournes. You become a prisoner to your own success."
What a prison: After the first season, Sharon negotiated for a $10 million deal with MTV for 20 more episodes (the first 10 started airing in April; the last 10 begin tonight). Not to mention deals for bobble heads, backpacks and DVDs.
The Osbournes were placed at No. 3 just last month on England's rock 'n' roll rich list, reported as having made $66 million (40 million pounds) last year, just behind Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones.
But the toll on their souls is what Sharon, 50, and Ozzy, 54, are mulling right now.
"I think we're not the same people. I'd be fibbing if I said things were just the same. Things are not the same at all," Sharon says.
Most of all: Jack, who's 17. "I had no idea the effect the show would have on my kids, because I had no idea if the show would be a little quirky show with a little cult following. Jack wasn't prepared, neither was I, but Jack was 15, Kelly, 16."
It would be easy to blame fame for Jack's turn to drugs and alcohol. But she can't. "After doing a lot of research and talking to an awful lot of people and being in the rehab with Jack and other kids whose parents aren't in the limelight at all — what do they blame?"
Maybe the rock 'n' roll lifestyle is to blame? "I don't blame the rock 'n' roll lifestyle," she says. "I blame me. You get caught up with the BS, and I did, of, 'Oh, your mom's really cool. She's really easygoing.' I should have had more boundaries. I should have had more structure for Jack."
Now, he's in a very structured place. "He's feeling right now that he's got no pressure on him at all. And he can be a kid. And he's with all kids his own age. He doesn't have to be anything but Jack."
Just then, Ozzy arrives, shaking, stammering and mumbling. But underneath all the gold chains, long dark hair, big glasses and black T-shirt is the lovable character from the show.
"Sharon! There must have been 80 people at the house!"
"Ozzy, don't go there. My head is still spinning," she says.
Once settled in with his own pot of tea, he has a lot to say about his family's trip through phenom status.
"In America, these talent shows with young kids, there's a big danger in those shows where they make a kid a star. I liken it to a guy with a bow and arrow and he's the strongest man in the world and as high as you go, you gotta come back down. They're prepared to go up but not prepared to come back down."
He adds, "Sharon and I have been in showbiz and it's been the best part of our lives." But nothing like The Osbournes. "I was the Prince of Darkness nearly 35 years. Suddenly, I became Mr. Super Dad."
And everything was fine, until Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer last summer.
"My highs were high, and my lows were low, and I honestly believe I had a nervous breakdown," Ozzy says. "I've not been the same since. One day I was meeting presidents and queens and royalty; the next minute I was worrying whether my wife would make it through the night."
Sharon: "He literally couldn't get up and decide what pair of trousers to put on."
Then Ozzy tells a story.
"I was in Boston, and my brain was going to explode — certainly nothing else mattered, only: Is my wife going to make it? And because of the success of The Osbournes TV show, everybody thinks they've got to come up to me and say the f-word. We use the f-word in our house all the time, and it's part of our language, but some people, they use it, and it just doesn't suit them.
"I was tired of being locked in my hotel room, because every time I went out, I got mobbed by everybody. I thought, 'I've gotta get some air.' I walk out of the hotel. This very conservative woman turns and does one of these double takes. She turns and says, 'My God — Ozzy (expletive) Osbourne.'
"Have you ever been in this situation where you're embarrassed for somebody else? She said, 'What on earth are you doing in Boston?' I said I'm doing a show. She said, 'What kind of a show?' I said a rock 'n' roll show. And she said, 'Oh, you do that, as well?'
"At that point, I totally realized how powerful that box you have in the corner is. TV is the most powerful thing that has ever been invented."
Now, Sharon has been given a clean bill of health, and Ozzy says he's almost back to normal. "I'm not 100%, but I'm 70% better. I have good days, and I have bad days."
But they're all sober days, he says. "What's helped me immensely is a physical trainer. I run and exercise."
As it's nearing 8:15 p.m., Kelly, 18, bops in, blond hair sticking out from under a black bowler hat, and dressed all in black. Her parents perk up. The girl we've seen throw up, cry, fight with her brother and be criticized for her weight is in a hurry. So, Kelly, has it been good or bad?
"There's good and bad to everything," she says, looking rock-chic but sounding like Miss America. "You have to take the good with the bad."
Kelly's first album, Shut Up, was a modest success. Then she was dropped by her record label. She's still stinging from that.
So if you had it to do over again, would you do it the same way? "Yeah, because I believe when you make mistakes, it makes you a better person," she says.
A bit petulant, she urges her parents to leave for dinner or they're going to be late! as she constantly checks her BlackBerry. (Later her publicist will say she was messaging Kelly from across the room telling her to calm down and cooperate with the interview.)
Kelly settles into a sofa for a moment.
Says Ozzy: "You say there may be good and bad, but it beats being in a traffic jam on the 405 at 7 o'clock in the morning working a job you hate, for a person you hate. I'm not complaining. I've got not one complaint. We're blessed. It could have been a lot worse. I could have been a delivery guy."
Sharon: "I don't think so. You would have gotten the wrong delivery or taken them home." Everyone laughs.
Back to Kelly and fame: "I think it made me realize how — I don't know how to put this without sounding ungrateful — but how naive people are. How everything you see is not the way it really is. Like if one day you have a bad mood on the show, you're forever labeled as a bitch. Or if you say something at the time, you don't realize the intensity and it's a huge bomb."
Says Ozzy: "My son said to me one day, 'Dad, do you think they're laughing with you or at you?' I said, 'Son, if they're laughing with me or at me, as long as they're laughing, I'm doing my job.' "
But Kelly couldn't laugh it all off so easily.
"I'm 18 years old," she says. "My father has lived a great portion of his life in having to do this stuff. I haven't. Sometimes I find it very hard. I am just a kid, you know? Growing up with your family is hard enough, let alone growing up in front of the world. The difference between me and everyone else is I get criticized for it and no one else does."
Then she softens, admitting it hasn't all been boo-hoo awful. "It's enabled me to have most of my dreams come true. It's enabled me to do music, which I love."
And acting. She'll try, but she'll cut her losses quickly if it doesn't work.
"My thought is try it once and if you suck at it, at least you know. I'm not going to do any Madonna movies. For example, she did a movie and she played herself, then she did another movie and it sucked and did another movie and it sucked and she did another movie and it sucked. Give her credit for trying, but why keep at it if you suck?"
Right now there is so much going on that they're not thinking of allowing cameras in for a new set of shows.
And would we want them to? Average ratings for the second season were down to 4.4 million viewers from 5.3 million the first season. Are they cooling off?
"I think it's proven to be more wildly successful and sustainable than anyone imagined," says Joe Levy, music editor for Rolling Stone. "Can they sustain it for nine years like Friends? If NBC ran Friends as much as MTV runs The Osbournes, we'd all be tired of that."
MTV isn't ready to see them go. Brian Graden, programming chief, says, "We'll do as many more (new shows) as they're willing to do."
Sharon isn't so sure. "I honestly don't know. It's not up to me. It's a group decision."
They'll have to decide by Christmas. Right now that feels like a long time away.

(6/9/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, Jack, and the rest of the menagerie will be in the spotlight again on Tuesday (June 10), when the fourth season of The Osbournes hits MTV.
The show has earned quite a following since it began, including some of Ozzy's high-profile peers. One of those is Kiss singer-bassist Gene Simmons, who said he's known Osbourne for a long time and is a big fan of the show.
"The music world is so full of boring people, it's great to see somebody who's interesting, at the very least, whether you're a fan of Ozzy's music or not," Simmon said. "I mean, this is a unique guy, who's obviously survived the times, and here's hoping he and his family survive more."
Kiss will release The Kiss Symphony: Alive IV on July 22. The album was recorded February 28, 2003 when the band played with the 60-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Telstar Dome in Melbourne, Australia. Also on the bill that night were the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Children's Choir. A DVD and pay-per-view broadcast of the show will come later this year.
Kiss hits the road with Aerosmith and opening act Saliva starting August 2 in Hartford, Connecticut.
An official biography called Kiss: Behind The Mask comes out in October.
Osbourne's annual Ozzfest kicks off June 28 in San Antonio, Texas.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne is leaving his Sony Music label after 23 years, and daughter Kelly, who issued her debut album on Sony last year, is going with him, family matriarch and manager Sharon Osbourne says.
Sharon Osbourne, who is negotiating her family's exit from Sony, said in a statement that her husband and daughter were looking for "fresh ideas," but she offered no specific explanation for their move.
The Osbournes' publicist, Lisa Vega, called the departures, "an amicable split". She denied a report in US Weekly magazine that Sony had dumped Kelly from its roster as she was finishing up work on a second album.
"She was not recording a second album," Vega said on Friday.
Osbourne said she and Sony had mutually agreed that her 18-year-old daughter would leave the label after former CEO Tommy Mottola, who signed Kelly last year, left the music company in January.
"Sony has been a part of the family for years ... and Tommy Mottola was the person they had dealt with all those years, and when he left, they decided it was time for a change as well," Vega said.
No comment was immediately available from Sony Music.
A source close to the label dismissed the notion that Sony was unhappy with Kelly's debut album, "Shut Up," which, according to Nielsen SoundScan, sold nearly 150,000 copies in the United States, a respectable tally for a new artist.
Kelly joined Sony as she was basking in the success of her family's MTV reality show, which turned the Osbournes into instant pop culture stars.
Ozzy Osbourne, the British-born former frontman for the heavy metal band Black Sabbath has released about a dozen albums through Sony's Epic Records since the early 1980s, most recently this year's "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" collection.
Kelly Osbourne plans to embark on a European tour this summer with Robbie Williams, while her father is gearing up for a Canadian tour in early June and will headline the annual Ozzfest rock spectacle again this summer.
The third season of "The Osbournes" is due to premiere on MTV in June.

Just one year after a White House correspondents' dinner made Ozzy Osbourne the toast of the D.C. beltway, his family is firing back at one high-profile politico who used Jack Osbourne's recent entry into a rehab facility to bolster an argument against reality television.
During a segment on CBS' "60 Minutes," former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole called the Osbournes "dysfunctional people" and used Jack Osbourne's stint in rehab as a platform for an attack on the "debasing and degrading" reality TV trend.
The 17-year-old Osbourne checked himself into Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, California, last month for undisclosed reasons. He later told People magazine, "I got caught up in my new lifestyle" (see "Jack Osbourne From Rehab: 'I Got Caught Up In My New Lifestyle' ").
"Does Hollywood still think Ozzy Osbourne is funny now that he's shipped his underage son off to drug rehab?" Dole asked in his weekly point/counterpoint segment with former President Bill Clinton. Clinton denied ever having seen "The Osbournes," but said that Republican budget cuts to after-school programs were doing more to "hurt our effort to keep kids drug-free" than any reality show.
Never ones to take a biting comment laying down, the Osbournes responded on Tuesday (May 6). "It's ridiculous that they should frame [Jack] as a national issue," Kelly Osbourne said in a statement to MTV News. "You don't go to rehab just because you're someone's kid, and it was Jack who had the balls to check himself in."
She reserved most of her ire for Senator Dole, adding, "P.S. You're a twat."

Jack Osbourne, the son of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, has said he checked himself into a drug and alcohol clinic in California last week because he wanted to sort out his problems.
"I got caught up in my new lifestyle and got carried away with drugs and alcohol," he told People magazine.
The Osbourne family became international stars last year after being featured in a fly-on-the-wall series on MTV.
His father has had well-documented problems with substance abuse and recently turned to alcohol again when his wife was diagnosed with cancer.
"I voluntarily checked myself into a detox facility for my own health and well-being," said the 17-year-old.
His father said he was proud of his son for admitting he had a problem.
Sharon Osbourne is her husband's manager
"It takes a lot of courage and strength to admit you need help, and both Sharon and I are proud Jack is facing his problems head-on," he said.
Sharon Osbourne has reportedly said she blames herself for son Jack going into rehab after allowing him to appear in the family's reality TV show.
She has told the ABC network that the second 10-episode series of The Osbournes would be the last.
Osbourne said the show - which drew record ratings for MTV this spring - had changed her family "so much".
Her children, she said, now had lawyers and business managers.
"This is definitely the last year," Osbourne said. "We can't do it anymore."
The first series was a big hit around the world but ratings tumbled in its second season.

Ozzy says he still fears for Sharon's health
Sharon Osbourne, wife of rock star Ozzy, has become free from cancer after months of treatment, the singer has said.
However, in a magazine interview, Osbourne said he still worried about the prospect of his wife's disease recurring.
He told rock weekly Kerrang! he had experienced a form of "breakdown" because of the stress of his wife's illness and pressures arising from the family's hit reality TV show The Osbournes.
Sharon Osbourne, who manages her husband's career, had lengthy chemotherapy treatment after announcing she had colon cancer in July last year.
She was diagnosed with the illness as the family began to enjoy worldwide recognition from the MTV show.
Ozzy Osbourne told Kerrang!: "She's got no cancer in her body now, they tell me - but there's always a chance of it coming back.
"She's doing great, but I must confess that I'm still worried about her."
He added: "With Sharon's cancer and the success of the TV show I lost it last year, I just freaked out.
"I think I had something like a nervous breakdown - my nervous system just imploded. This is all too much for me sometimes."
Sharon - who delivered Channel 4's alternative Christmas message last year - said last month that she felt "great", even before she was given the all-clear.
In the US TV interview she said: "I now know what it is like to suffer great pain and I know what millions of people around the world have been going through. I'm one of them."

Ozzy, Jason, Zakk Wylde, and Michael Bordin ran through "War Pigs", "Believer", "No More Tears", and "Crazy Train." Ozzy Osbourne named one-time Metallica bassist Jason Newsted as his full-time four-stringer.
More Ozzy. We all know that Rob, the new Metallica bassist was Ozzy's 4 stringer. Here is what Rob wrote on Metallica.com: Did my last show with Ozzy this past Friday in Vegas, it was a blast! Ozzy and Sharon threw a going-away party for me, which was absolutely amazing!

A camera crew following Roseanne as she shopped at the Barney's
New York store in Beverly Hills this week ran into another
camera crew shooting Ozzy Osbourne as he -- you guessed it --
also shopped.
Of course, Ozzy's cameras caught the spectacle, as did Roseanne's,
so expect to see two different takes of the random meeting on
MTV's "The Osbournes" and Roseanne's upcoming ABC reality series.
In this reality-soaked TV era, the encounter was probably
inevitable. While film shoots are easy to find while driving
around the streets of Los Angeles, it's also become common to
spot people going about their business as cameras tag along
behind them.
"It was the ultimate reality moment," said ABC alternative
series and specials executive Andrea Wong. "The only thing that
would have made it better is if Anna Nicole Smith had shown up."

Ozzy In Collaboration With Iommi (2/26/2003)
Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he and Black Sabbath bandmate
Tony Iommi have been collaborating long-distance on songwriting.
Ozzy made the announcement during a press conference on February
18th to announce the lineup for the 8th Annual outing of Ozzfest.
It wasn¹t clear if the material is for a new Sabbath studio album,
or for a solo project by either party. In related news, Ozzy hopes
to take Ozzfest to Britain, Germany, Scandinavia and the
Netherlands in September, assuming a possible war with Iraq will
not frighten groups from flying to Europe.

A Black Sabbath fan has changed his name to Ozzy Osbourne after the wildman rocker helped revive him from a coma. Lovable madman Ozzy proved that his talents are not limited to heavy metal and reality TV when his music helped bring the hospital patient back from the brink of death.
Doctors feared that father-of-three Robert Jacques would never recover after a motorcycle crash left him in a coma. His mother felt sure that his passion for Ozzy's music could save him, however, and so insisted on playing the rocker's albums around the clock.
The power of the "prince of darkness" seems to have worked its magic, as Robert eventually recovered consciousness, to the sound of Black Sabbath's Crazy Train.
"It was recognizing his voice that did the trick," said the 35-year-old afterwards. And to show his gratitude Robert, who had been in a coma for three months until Ozzy was drafted in to save the day, has decided to change his name to match his hero's.
"If it wasn't for him who knows what would have happened," he said. "I'll always be grateful to Ozzy and my mum. I'm not sure it was her favourite music, but she made a sacrifice for me."

It looks like Die Hard 4 is a goer. The film is apparently to be called Die Hard: Die Hardest with Bruce Willis returning in the role of John McClane. The script is complete, and LDJW Films claim that a scooper of theirs has read the screenplay. Hit the link to check out what he thought, but beware of spoilers. The aforementioned site also states that Ozzy Osbourne was also up for a role as the bad guy in the film and Ben Affleck was to star alongside, but apparently there is only a 13 week window when both actors are available at the same time."

If only Bobby Trendy did clothes...
That might be Mr. Blackwell's wish after the snippy fashion maven selected Anna Nicole Smith as the worst dressed celeb of 2002.
In issuing his 43rd annual rundown of "couture casualties," with a passing nod to the spit-and-polished set, Blackwell dinged the buxom reality TV star for unspecified "fashion follies" and urged her to "hire a structural engineer."
Unfortunately, interior design whiz Bobby Trendy, as featured on E!'s The Anna Nicole Show, doesn't do bridges, either. Smith, meanwhile, will soon have a chance to showcase a whole new wardrobe--the second season of her E! series premieres March 2 at 10 p.m. (E! Online is a division of E! Entertainment Television.)
Another reality TV personality placed as Anna Nicole's distinguished runnerup. Teen terror Kelly Osbourne was, to quote Mr. Blackwell, a "fright-wigged Baby Doll, stuck in a goth prom gown."
No word on Osbourne's reaction, but we're pretty sure it'd involve a whole bunch of four- and possibly 12-letter words.
In his defense, Mr. Blackwell (real name: Richard Selzer) is not being mean. He concedes that "designer disaster[s]" may be very successful and talented in their professional lives. He's just pointing out that they, you know, shouldn't be allowed to dress themselves.
Rounding out Blackwell's "top" five: popster Shakira ("overwrought and underdressed"); Cameron Diaz ("looks like she was dressed by a color-blind circus clown"); and easy target Princess Anne ("Her Royal Dowager Drag").
Overall, musical types were most represented on the worst-of list. In addition to Shakira and aspiring crooner Kelly Osbourne, Pink ("Cartoon-colored proof that any fashion sanity for her is really dead!") and Christina Aguilera ("Her barely there bimbo bombs wouldn't cover a gnat") also earned Blackwell's ire. Per the catty one, the "style-challenged songbirds overcompensated in the cavalcade of kitsch."
What's a "cavalcade of kitsch"? Don't go trying to make sense of Blackwell's barbs. He's been mixing metaphors and what-not since he deigned Munsters matriarch Yvonne De Carlo, then a film star, "a gypsy who stole a wine red portiere from a window and draped it over her body in combination with a Kelly green couch cover," on his first list, released in 1960.
Two curious things about Blackwell's 2002 list: First, he didn't include Gwyneth Paltrow, who offended even non-Blackwells for her see-through Morticia Adams get-up at the Academy Awards; second, he did include author Anne Rice, as if writers were ever admired for their uncanny ability to find just the right pair of shoes to go with that skirt.
Perennial non-favorite Madonna somehow avoided making Blackwell's black list, although he did manage to get a swipe in at her latest box-office bomb Swept Away. ("A masochistic mission, indeed!")
When he wasn't busy dissing Meg Ryan ("looks like a swap-meet fashion queen in Beverly Hills") and designer Donatella Versace ("a flash-fried Venus, stuck in a Miami strip mall"), two other worst-of dishonorees, Blackwell managed to compile a brief rundown of the year's best dressed.
Making the cut there: Jennifer Aniston; Halle Berry (presumably cited for her anti-Gwyneth Oscar gown); Chicago costars Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones; Nicole Kidman; Debra Messing; Oprah Winfrey; Kate Winslet; Reese Witherspoon; and Jordan's Princess Firyal.
For the record, Blackwell hopes that 2003 will be filled with "beauty and elegance for fashion devotees everywhere."
But, presumably, also a few clothing disasters to keep him in business.
